How to price print-on-demand on Etsy

With print on demand you never touch the product, but the provider's cost and Etsy's fees leave less room than most sellers expect.

A $28 t-shirt with free shipping

Example: the print provider charges $12.50 for the shirt and $4.75 to ship it. Base costs vary by provider and product, so check yours.

T-shirt: $28, free shipping
Buyer pays$28.00
Listing fee−$0.20
Transaction 6.5%−$1.82
Processing 3% + $0.25−$1.09
Platform fees−$3.11
Your costs−$17.25
You keep$7.64 (27.3%)

You keep $7.64, or 27.3%. For a 30% margin you'd need to charge $29.26.

The Offsite Ads trap

If that same sale comes from Etsy's Offsite Ads, the extra 15% leaves you $3.44. Print-on-demand margins are thin, so many sellers opt out while their shop qualifies. How Offsite Ads work.

Pricing tips

  • Price from your total provider cost, including their shipping, not just the base product.
  • Check bigger sizes separately: 2XL and up often cost the provider more.
  • Your design is the value. Unique, niche designs carry higher prices than generic ones.
