Every Etsy sale carries three fees. A few others apply only in certain situations.
| Fee | Rate | Charged on |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 | Each listing, and again each time it renews or sells |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% | Item price plus shipping and gift wrap |
| Payment processing (US) | 3% + $0.25 | The full order total |
| Payment processing (Canada) | 3% + CA$0.25 | Domestic and US orders; 4% for other countries |
| Payment processing (UK) | 4% + £0.20 | The full order total |
| Regulatory operating fee | Canada 0.5%, UK 0.48% | The order total, in some countries |
| VAT on fees (UK) | 20% | Etsy's fees, for sellers who aren't VAT-registered |
| Offsite Ads | 15% or 12% | Only sales that came from Etsy's ads, capped at $100 |
| Currency conversion | 2.5% | When listing and bank currencies differ |
On a typical US order, Etsy keeps about 9.5% plus $0.45 before any ads. Low-priced items feel the fixed part the most: on a $5 item, fees take close to 19%.
Questions sellers ask
How much does Etsy take from a $20 sale?
With no shipping charged, a US seller pays $0.20 listing, $1.30 transaction and $0.85 processing, so $2.35 in total, or about 11.8%.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and the payment processing fee both apply to what the buyer pays for shipping, not just the item price.
Can I avoid Offsite Ads fees?
Shops that made under $10,000 in the past 12 months can opt out in their shop settings. Shops over $10,000 are enrolled automatically at the lower 12% rate.
What is the Etsy regulatory operating fee?
Some countries add a percentage fee to cover local regulation costs. Canada's is 0.5% of the order total. MakerFees fills in the rate when you pick your country, and you can edit it.
