Etsy Offsite Ads: what they cost and whether to opt out
Etsy advertises your listings on Google, social media and other sites. You pay nothing unless an ad leads to a sale, and then the fee is big.
How it works
- If a shopper clicks an Etsy ad for your listing and buys from your shop within 30 days, the order counts as an Offsite Ads sale.
- The fee is 15% of the order total. Shops that have made $10,000 or more in any 12-month period pay 12%.
- It's capped at $100 per order.
- Shops under $10,000 can opt out. Shops over it are enrolled for good.
What it does to a $40 sale
The same $40 necklace leaves you $10.75 on a normal sale and $4.75 when it comes from an ad. If your margin is already thin, an ad sale can make you lose money.
On a $1,000 order, the cap keeps the fee at $100 instead of $150.
Should you opt out?
Keep it on if your margins can absorb 15% and you want the extra exposure, especially for a new shop with few sales. Opt out if your profit per sale is under about 20% of the price, because ad sales would barely pay you.
To opt out: Shop Manager → Settings → Offsite Ads → opt out, then confirm. You can turn it back on any time.
